May 3 marks the return of “Stramilano”, Italy’s most famous road race, now in its 53rd edition
This morning, the press conference presenting Stramilano 2026 took place in the Sala Alessi at Palazzo Marino. The most eagerly awaited running event of the year has reached its 53rd edition and on Sunday, May 3, it will once again fill the streets of Milan.
Stramilano 2026 was presented by Federica Picchi, Undersecretary with responsibility for Sport and Youth of the Lombardy Region, and Martina Riva, Councillor for Sport, Tourism and Youth Policies of the City of Milan. Also in attendance were the Organising Committee, official sponsors, Enrico Ragnolini, Vice President of the Lombardy Regional CONI Committee, Colonel Della Rocca of the Italian Army, General Baione of the Italian Air Force, and Colonel Morganti of the Carabinieri Corps.
On Sunday, May 3, the Stramilano city race and the Half Marathon will start respectively from Piazza Duomo and Piazza Castello. These two historic starting locations are ready to welcome thousands of athletes, enthusiasts and families who every year, since 1972, have taken over the city of Milan for a day of celebration and sport. Last year, during the 52nd edition of Stramilano, more than 55,000 people took part in the races, filling the streets of Milan.
As is tradition, the event is divided into three main races: Stramilano 10 km, Stramilanina 5 km, and the Stramilano Half Marathon.
The Stramilano 2026 will be officially opened by the Half Marathon, starting from Piazza Castello at 8:30 a.m. and finishing at the same location, at the foot of the Sforza Castle, after a 21.097 km course. Dedicated to professional runners, the half marathon confirms the success of last year’s edition and has once again sold out, with over 10,000 registered participants, reaching the peak of the event’s popularity.
At 10:00 a.m. it will be the turn of the Stramilano 10 km, followed at 10:30 a.m. by the Stramilanina, dedicated to children and families; both races will start from Piazza Duomo. The finish line for both non-competitive races will be set at the picturesque Arco della Pace, where all participants will receive their medal and can finally relax and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
During the press conference, the godmother of the event was also announced. This year, the role will be held by Francesca Lollobrigida, Italian speed skater and one of the greatest athletes in Italian sports history, recently crowned double Olympic champion in the 3000 metres (Olympic record) and the 5000 metres at the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics.
