ON MARCH 24, “STRAMILANO” RETURNS, THE MOST FAMOUS RACE IN ITALY NOW IN ITS 51ST EDITION
This morning, inside the Sala Alessi of Palazzo Marino, a press conference was held to present the Stramilano 2024. The most awaited running event of the year is now in its 51st edition and will return to take over the streets of Milan on Sunday, March 24th.
The running event was introduced by Lombardy Region’s Undersecretary for Sports and Youth Lara Magoni and Milan City Council’s Councillor for Sports, Tourism and Youth Policies Martina Riva. The Organizing Committee, official sponsors, CONI Lombardy Region Committee President Marco Riva, General Miro of the Italian Army, and General Boccaccio of the Carabinieri Corps also attended the conference.
On Sunday, March 24, the run will kick off from Piazza Duomo and Piazza Castello. The two historic starting locations will be ready to welcome thousands of athletes, fans and families who, every year since 1972, crowd the Milanese city for a day of sport and celebration. Last year, on Stramilano’s 50th birthday, as many as 60,000 people poured through the streets of Milan, coloring them red.
The race, as per tradition, is organized into three major events: Stramilano 10 Km, Stramilanina 5 Km and Stramilano Half Marathon.
The Half Marathon will open Stramilano 2024: it will start from Piazza Castello at 8:30 a.m. and, as always, will end after 21.097 Kilometers in front of the Sforza family mansion. The run is open to professional athletes and marathon enthusiasts who have shown huge interest in the Milan Half Marathon. Last year, indeed, a record number of as many as 5,500 runners participated, visible proof that the Stramilano Half Marathon is among the most popular city races.
At 9:30 a.m., participants of the Stramilano 10 Km will start running from Piazza Duomo: the non-competitive race sees runners of all ages and skill run through the city’s most characteristic streets such as Corso Venezia, Piazza V Giornate, Piazza XXIV Maggio and many others. At 10 a.m., the Stramilanina will start also from Piazza Duomo: young runners together with their caretakers will run through the historic center of Milan for 5 Km.
For both the non-competitive races, the finish line will be at Arco della Pace where all participants will receive their medals and will be invited to the refreshment area where they will enjoy some well-deserved rest and fun.
During the press conference, it was announced that this year’s patroness of the event will be Jessica Brugali, radio host and one of Italy’s most followed tiktokers with more than 10 million followers, who with her friendliness and enthusiasm will accompany the runners on every event of Stramilano 2024.
