RAIN DOESN’T STOP STRAMILANO 2025!
23/03/2025
Despite the rain, the 52nd edition of Stramilano turned the streets of Milan into a grand celebration of sports.
Over 55,000 people gathered between Piazza Duomo and Piazza Castello to take part in the three scheduled races: the Stramilano Half Marathon, the 10 km, and the Stramilanina, dedicated to the youngest participants.
The event kicked off with the Stramilano Half Marathon, which started at 8:30 AM from Piazza Castello, breaking participation records with 9,000 athletes competing over 21 km.
On one of Italy’s fastest courses, Kenyan runner Mwangi Simon Waithira claimed victory in the men’s race with a time of 1:00:54, followed by Rwandan Yves Nimubona (1:01:18) and Kenyan Yosey Charles Mneria (1:02:08).
The women’s podium was dominated by Kenyans as well, with Gesare Morine Michira taking first place with 1:08:47, ahead of Chebet Stella Mateiko (1:11:19) and Chebet Monica Chepkwony (1:11:25).
Among the Italian runners, Stefano Massimi was the first to cross the finish line in 1:04:51, while Rebecca Lonedo led the Italian women with a time of 1:12:08, followed closely by Giovanna Epis (1:12:17).
The 10 km race was launched with the traditional cannon shot from the Historic Artillery Regiment, fired by actress Chiara Gensini, the event’s ambassador, alongside Sports Councillor Martina Riva. Shortly after, at 10:00 am, the Stramilanina began, a 5 km race for children, accompanied by parents, friends, and teachers.
At the finish line at the Arco della Pace, participants were welcomed with refreshment stations, entertainment, and acrobatic performances by the LiberiDi company. The Athletes’ Village, managed by the Italian Red Cross, provided a relaxation area and post-race massages for runners.
Stramilano is also a symbol of solidarity, supporting various charitable associations, including Abio, Dutur Claun, Cooperativa Fabula, Africa&Sport, Le Gocce, City Angels, and Bistari Bistari Kalika.
The next event on the calendar is Stramilano Sottozero on November 30, the winter edition that has become a must-attend for thousands of participants. Looking ahead to next year, the 53rd edition of Stramilano will take place on May 3, 2026!
